As a member of BEH-MHT Trust you have access to a range of e-resources including e-books, e-journals and healthcare databases. These resources can be accessed from anywhere with internet access, so you can search for evidence-based information from work, from home or even from a mobile device. To make it easier to find what you are looking for, this page provides links to online resources available to you and information to help you to access them. Some resources are freely available but for many you will need to register for an OpenAthens account in order to access them.

BMJ Best Practice

BMJ Best Practice is now available to all BEH Staff as well as to the whole NHS workforce in England. Ranked one of the best clinical decision support tools for health professionals worldwide, it provides step by step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention. BMJ Best Practice is available directly from the Library’s intranet pages when you are connected to the Trust network (no password required). From anywhere else, please go to BMJ Best Practice and click ‘Log In’ on the top right of the page.Select the ‘OpenAthens’ button and sign in with your OpenAthens credentials. Once you have logged in, you can create a free personal account enabling you to download the app. Please read the Getting started guide.

No link? Go to My Account and use the “request an item” option to request the article you need from the Library or contact the Library.You must be registered with the library to use this service.

MAH Complete journal bundle
The Library subscribes to the MAH Complete collection that brings together all Mark Allen Healthcare titles in nursing, midwifery and allied health, offering institutions a comprehensive resource to cover a broad range of healthcare settings. These are practical and accessible peer-reviewed titles that support the education and professional development of students and practitioners alike. With access to over 65,000 articles across 31 titles, end-users are fully supported in their work with not only the latest clinical research but also regular updates dealing with professional, education and legal issues. It is made up of the Internurse, Intermid, Health Professionals sub-collections. The Internurse journals are the UK’s largest collection of peer-reviewed nursing content, covering primary and secondary care settings as well as the whole spectrum of specialist nursing practice including cardiology, neuroscience, mental health, palliative care and wound care. Available journals include British Journal of Mental Health Nursing, British Journal of Healthcare Assistants, British Journal of Cardiac Nursing and Nurse Prescribing.


All BEH Staff can access these full text journal articles via an NHS OpenAthens account. You can view / download the MAH Current Awareness Bulletins, selections of the most relevant and recent articles from the MAH journals that cover a chosen healthcare topic or clinical area which can be important to students and professionals in healthcare today.

Faculty Development Virtual Collection

The Virtual Faculty Collection is designed to support the work of all clinical trainers and supervisors in London, providing access to journals. Focusing on key faculty development issues including clinical supervision workplace learning, clinical teachers across the NHS can keep up to date with developments, debates and research in clinical education.

Accessing Print Journals
The vast majority of our journals are now available electronically however the Journal of Dementia Care is available in print only. If you would like to join a distribution list to receive table of contents for this title please contact the Library.

We also have an archive of older journal titles in print format. These can be browsed in the Library or we can provide copies of articles on request. These holdings are also displayed when you search the NICE MyJournals page by journal title.

Ebscohost databases

Ebscohost enables you to search CINAHL Index,
MEDLINE, PEP Archive, PsycBOOKS and additionally to our point
of care tool Dynamed. Click on the link above to access with
OpenAthens or if you are connected to the Trust network visit the
Library intranet page to access without a password.


Proquest Hospital collection

ProQuest Hospital Collection contains thousands of full-text health sciences journals in biomedical, clinical, psychology, nursing and allied health, and behavioural sciences, published in over 30 countries. This database also offers an invaluable range of other health resources which complement journal articles. Click on the link above to access with OpenAthens. Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature.

PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber. NICE Evidence Search

A search engine providing easy access to evidence based resources.
With no password required it can be a very good place to start researching a topic.

NHS Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS)

HDAS enables you to search 8 healthcare databases using the same interface.

OTseeker is a database containing 4000+ abstracts of systematic reviews
and RCTs relevant occupational therapy.

PubMed comprises more than 23 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations include links to freely available full-text content where available (Freely available).

Social Care Online is produced by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and is the UK’s largest database of information on all aspects of social care and social work (Freely available). 


PEDro is a Physiotherapy Evidence Database containing over 27,000
randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines.

Speech pathology practice database for best interventions and treatment efficacy (Freely available).

PEP Archive

Pep Archive offers the full text for 42 principal psychoanalytic journals and
over 58 classic psychoanalytic books dating as far back as 1871, and is
the most authoritative source of peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific
articles from the field of psychoanalysis.

Trip Pro Database

TRIP(Turning Research into Practice) Pro is a freely available bibliographic database bringing together online 'evidence-based' healthcare resources (Freely available).
